(L-R) PENRO Rizal Officer-in-Charge Ernesto Diso, Jr., DENR Calabarzon Assistant Regional Director Nelson Gorospe, DENR Calabarzon Regional Executive Director Nilo Tamoria, WawaJVCo Government Affairs and Public Relations Head Karl Zapanta, TSKC Chair Virginia Bañaga, and DENR Calabarzon Assistant Regional Director Alfredo Valencia at the Tripartite MOA Signing Ceremony held June 18, 2021.
Prime Infra-led WawaJVCo Inc. partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and farmers’ organization Tulungan Sa Kabuhayan ng Calawis Inc. (TSKC) for the rehabilitation and enhancement of a 135-hectare forestland in the province of Rizal.
WawaJVCo adopted a graduated National Greening Program (NGP) area within the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape under the Tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed June 18. Graduated areas are previously established NGP plantations that need assistance from government institutions and private sector partners. WawaJVCo will provide assistance for seedling production, plantation establishments, and maintenance and protection activities.
“We pledge our commitment to abide and deliver our responsibilities in the MOA as we continue to support the government’s National Greening Program. WawaJVCO is very proud to be part of this partnership,” WawaJVCo Government Affairs and Public Relations Head Karl Zapanta said during the MOA signing ceremony.
DENR Calabarzon Regional Executive Director Nilo Tamoria expressed the agency’s gratitude towards WawaJVCo over the NGP enhancement initiative. “We hope this is only the beginning and look forward to a continued partnership in this rehabilitation effort,” he said in Filipino.
Also present during the signing ceremony and turnover of seedlings were DENR Calabarzon Assistant Regional Directors Nelson Gorospe and Alfredo Valencia, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Rizal Officer-in-Charge Ernesto Diso, Jr., and TSKC Chair Virginia Bañaga.
Bañaga said the three-year rehabilitation project will provide jobs and livelihood opportunities to TSKC. Under the MOA, TSKC will prioritize the employment of indigenous peoples and members of organized upland communities within the area vicinity.
