PAKIL, Laguna — More than 500 residents here, mostly children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs), were able to avail of free medical assistance and other health services during the medical mission led by Ahunan Power Inc. (Ahunan) on October 1.

The medical mission is part of Ahunan’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program launched in August dubbed “Tayo Na Pakil,” a community-centered initiative focused on education, environment, heritage, and wellness. Ahunan is a subsidiary of Prime Infrastructure Capital, Inc. (Prime Infra).

Ahunan was able to carry out the medical mission successfully with the help and support of the Makati Medical Center Foundation (MMCF), local government of Pakil, staff of the Pakil Elementary School, local police, and members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Leading the activity were Prime Infra President and CEO Guillaume Lucci, Ahunan President Rafael Bueno Jr. and MMCF President Dr. Victor Gisbert. Also present were Pakil Mayor Vincent Soriano and barangay officials Bobby Valero, Eddie Cruz, Rey Alad and Manny Laciste.

“Prime Infra’s mission of making better lives and building resilient economies is also delivered through the social and environmental programs that are embedded in the critical infrastructure projects that we develop across all business units. This health-focused program is just the beginning as we continue to work with our host community in designing a meaningful program in Pakil that will have long-term benefits for our stakeholders,” said Lucci.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to all the volunteers and Makati Med staff who so generously shared their precious time and talents for the benefit of the residents of Pakil,” he added.

The highlight of the medical mission is the feeding program and distribution of supplemental vitamins to identified children of Pakil geared towards addressing malnutrition, which takes a toll in the learning capability of children. Ahunan and the Municipal Nutrition Council of Pakil also signed a commitment agreement signifying Ahunan’s support for the local government’s supplemental feeding program which will benefit 113 pre-school children.

Some of the medical services provided were minor surgeries, including circumcision; eye consults; ENT and derma care; pre-natal care; pedia and adult check-ups; free medicines; and fifty flu vaccines for SPED and DSWD beneficiaries. More than one hundred senior citizens also received their free eyeglasses as part of the “Pasalamin Kay Lolo’t Lola” program.

Ahunan also previously took part in Brigada Eskwela, a back-to-school program wherein the company donated construction materials for the repair of various school facilities. Ahunan also installed a Solar Electrification System in a school located in a remote area of Barangay Saray.

Ahunan has also started implementing its livelihood and skills training program to provide business opportunities for Pakileños. It is also closely working with the barangay leaders of host communities to create a Barangay Development Plan with the goal of developing initiatives that will benefit every Pakileño in the years to come.

Ahunan is in the pre-development stage of a 1,400-megawatt pumped storage hydroelectric power project in Laguna. In June, the company was granted Original Proponent status by the Manila Electric Company in relation to its offer to supply 500 megawatts of mid-merit power.
