Barangay San Rafael, Rodriguez, Rizal – The groundbreaking ceremony for the farm to market road in Barangay San Rafael, Rodriguez was held last August 28, 2020 by WawaJVCo, in the Province of Rizal.

In attendance during the simple ceremony were Eron Paul Alvarez, Barangay Chairman of San Rafael, Mayet Hernandez, Barangay Chairwoman of San Isidro, who represented her brother – Mayor Tom Hernandez, and representatives of the Montalban Indigenous Peoples, led by Narciso San Jose.

The project involves rehabilitating an existing 5-km road consisting of clay and limestone that becomes muddy and unpassable during the rainy season. The farm to market road passes through Sitio Sapa, Sitio Kayrupa going to the communities of Sitio Inigan up to Sitio Casili. Currently, locals have a hard time traveling along the dirt road as it is usually damaged due to rain and typhoons and is only passable by high-powered motorcycles or on foot. This makes it hard for the local community to bring their farmed goods to the central barangay area to sell and students to go to school.

“Lubos pong nagpapasalamat ang inyong lingkod dahil tinugunan agad ang pagrequest natin na iparehabilitate ang farm to market road” said Barangay Chairman Alvarez. “Sa layo po ng pinanggagalingan ng kanilang mga produkto para maibaba sa bayan ay talagang makakatulong ito,” he added.

“Hindi lamang po kaming mga katutubo ang makikinabang kundi pati po ang ibang naninirahan sa lugar na ito” said Narciso San Jose of the Montalban Indigenous Peoples while expressing their thanks.

“This project is both relevant and highly symbolic. It is relevant because this will further improve the ability of our food producers to make their commodities readily available to the people of Montalban. This also symbolizes your efforts to ensure that the progress of Montalban continues regardless of the major challenges we face today,” was the message shared by Governor Rebecca “Nini” Ynares.
